Congressman Swalwell Hosting Veterans' Employment Roundtable

Veterans and service members are invited to participate on Aug. 8 at the Chabot College's Campus Community Center in Hayward.

U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) will host a Veterans’ Employment Roundtable on Friday, August 8 to connect CA-15 veterans and current service members with employers hiring in the East Bay. The event will be an opportunity to learn about jobs available and meet with hiring managers. The roundtable will take place at Chabot College’s Campus Community Center in Hayward in partnership with the State of California Employment Development Department.

“We have a duty to serve our veterans as well as they served us,” said Swalwell. “Unfortunately, many veterans experience obstacles as they transition from active-duty service to civilian life and despite their valuable skillset, the unemployment rate among remains tragically high. My event aims to connect local veterans with military-friendly employers and help them find meaningful employment as they re-enter the workforce.”

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, post 9/11 veterans have an unemployment rate above the overall civilian unemployment rate of 6.1 percent. This event is part of a larger effort by Swalwell to assist veterans in their transition to the workforce. In Congress, Swalwell cosponsoredH.R. 2056, the Veteran Employment Transition Act. This bill would make permanent the work opportunity tax credit for qualified veterans.
