Coronavirus: St. Patrick's Brew Crawl Canceled In Pleasanton
Health and safety concerns related to COVID-19 led to the Downtown Association's decision to scrap the Saturday event.
PLEASANTON, CA — This year's St. Patrick’s Day Brew Crawl, an annual event that was planned for Saturday in downtown Pleasanton, was canceled as due to coronavirus concerns, according to organizers.
"The health and safety of our event attendees is of utmost concern and current conditions provide a risk that we are not willing to take," the Pleasanton Downtown Association said. "Though this was a tough decision to make, after working closely with city officials and consulting our board members we feel it is necessary to do our part in taking precautions to keep our community members safe."
This latest cancellation joins a growing list of events being dropped, due to COVID-19, throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, including the City of Dublin's annual St. Patrick's Day parade and festival, San Francisco's St. Patrick's parade and the Shamrock Run in San Jose.

CSU-East Bay announced today that is is canceling in-person classes through Friday, with online sessions to begin Monday. The university joined other Bay Area colleges that previously made such instruction decisions, including UC Berkeley, Stanford University, San Jose State and San Francisco State.
The Alameda County Public Health Department issued an advisory Tuesday stating that organizers should “cancel non-essential mass gatherings and large community events where large numbers of people are within arm’s length of one another."

The Pleasanton Downtown Association noted that the health department's guidelines do not address such activities as shopping or dining. "It’s perfectly safe to sip, shop and enjoy a meal downtown so long as you follow general hygiene precautions such as washing your hands, using hand sanitizer, and keeping a safe distance from those around you," the organization said, adding that "downtown businesses are also taking extra precautions during this time to ensure the safety of our community."
Those who purchased tickets for Saturday's brew crawl will be issued full refunds into their accounts within the next seven or so business days, the downtown association said. Anyone who has not received the refund in that time frame can call 925-484-2199 or email the organization at events@pleasantondowntown.net.
"While we are extremely disappointed not to be able kick off our crawl season with this signature downtown event, we look forward to seeing our community out in full force for our next Wine Stroll, Saturday, May 9th," the downtown group said.
