Day of Prayer To ‘Bring Together Church And State’ In Tri-Valley

PLEASANTON, CA — The National Day of Prayer for 2022 is set for May 5. The Tri-Valley is having its event surrounding the day at the Alameda County Fairgrounds Amphitheater, hosted by District 1 Alameda County Supervisor David Haubert.

“The goal of this event is to highlight the cooperation and collaboration between church and state, recognizing that in America, freedom of religion allows us all to pray in our own way,” Haubert said. “This event is a great way to bring people of all different backgrounds together, especially during a time of international conflict.”

The following church leaders from the Tri-Valley and East Bay will be part of the prayer:

• Cornerstone Fellowship
• Harbor Light
• Glad Tidings Church
• Muslim Community Center –East Bay
• Coptic Orthodox Church
• The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
• Forerunner Christian Church
• Hindu American Foundation
• Palma Ceia Baptist
• St. Michael
• Fa Yun Chan Temple
• Tri-Valley Sikh Center
• Chabad of the Tri-Valley

Fremont Councilmember Rick Jones will present the opening comments.

Councilmember Sherry Hu recalled last year's event as a time of unity.

“As a City Councilmember of Dublin and a Christian, I was honored to join the National Day of Prayer event team last year. We may have different religions, skin colors, and cultures, but we came together, prayed together, and felt united heart to heart," Hu said.

The event is from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

An annual day of prayer was established by congress in 1952 then in 1988 the law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.
