Pleasanton PD, Alameda Sheriff Investigate Police Shooting

Pleasanton police confirmed Thursday that they shot and killed a domestic violence suspect carrying a knife following a lengthy standoff.

PLEASANTON, CA — Pleasanton police shot and killed a domestic violence suspect Thursday near the intersection of Willow Road and Owens Drive, the department confirmed in a tweet.

The shooting occurred at 3:39 p.m., Lt. Erik Silacci said at a Thursday evening news conference.

Police received a call from a domestic violence at about 11:51 a.m. at 4899 Willow Road, Silacci said. Officers attempted to make contact with a suspect in a domestic violence case in the Galloway apartment complex near the intersection of the two streets, but the suspect refused to exit the building, Silacci said.

Just before 3:39 p.m., the suspect exited the apartment building with a knife, and the officers opened fire.

Bystander video shows officers breaking a window and getting ready to enter, KPIX 5 reports. Moments later, the suspect walked out of the apartment building and the officers opened fire.

A witness told KTVU that officers broke the window, and the suspect had a knife, and officers opened fire as soon as he walked out.

Two officers were involved with the shooting, but neither was hurt, Silacci said.

Nearby residents were evacuated at around noon Thursday, and the public was told to avoid the area near the intersection.

An investigation by the Pleasanton Police Department Alameda County District Attorney's Office is underway.

The deceased man's identity has not yet been released. No other victims have been reported, and the no information is yet available on the status of the domestic violence victim.

Silacci said more information is forthcoming, and would not take questions.
