East Bay Gas Station Robbery Possibly Related to Series of Armed Robberies
Similar robberies have recently occurred at Valero gas stations and 7-Eleven stores in San Leandro, Walnut Creek and Redwood City.

A robbery at a gas station Thursday evening in San Leandro is being investigated for possible connections to a recent series of armed robberies in Bay Area cities, police said. The incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday at a Chevron Gas Station at 15201 Washington Ave., San Leandro police said. A man armed with a pistol robbed the gas station and fled, police said.
Police were not able to provide a description today of the suspect or what he stole. Police are investigating whether this incident is linked with a series of armed robberies at Valero gas stations and 7-Eleven convenience stores in San Leandro, Walnut Creek and Redwood City, but “do not have a definitive answer at this time,” Lt. Robert McManus said in a statement today.
Police said Thursday’s robbery was similar to those previous incidents, but it occurred at a different gas station chain and within a different time frame. Most of those previous robberies occurred in the late night or early morning hours. Officers described the suspect in the previous robberies as a slender Asian or Hispanic man, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, and in his 20s or 30s.
