An Evening with Author Maggie Anton
Wednesday, November 19, 7pm Congregation Beth Emek, 3400 Nevada Court, Pleasanton, CA

Fantastic tales of demons and the Evil Eye, magical incantations, and powerful attractions abound in Enchantress, a historical novel by acclaimed author Maggie Anton that weaves together Talmudic lore, ancient Jewish magic, and a timeless love story set in fourth-century Babylonia. On November 19, the author will be visiting Congregation Beth Emek to discuss the research behind her newest novel.
Ms. Anton, author of the historical fiction series Rashi’s Daughters andRav Hisda’s Daughter, has spent years researching what the Talmud says about sorcery, in addition to Jewish amulets, Babylonian incantation bowls, and magic manuals from the Cairo Geniza. InEnchantress, she uses these ancient sources to weave a literary tapestry that illuminates life in 4th-century Babylonia, land where the very word “magic” originated, as seen through the eyes of this learned and passionate woman.
Admission is free. Copies of all of Maggie Anton’s novels will be available for sale.
