Fall Horse Racing Returns To Pleasanton

From Alameda Co. Fair: Live Fall Horse Racing with $850,000 in prize money and a $75,000 stakes race returns to the Pleasanton Track on September 21.

Oaktree at Pleasanton Fall Horse Racing is back with seven full days of racing over two consecutive weekends: September 21-24 and September 29-October 1. Post times are 2:15 p.m. for both Friday cards and 1:45 p.m. for Thursday, Saturday and Sunday racing. Admission is free.

On the track, the highlighted race will be the $75,000 Oak Tree Juvenile on September 30, which features two-year-old horses. The one mile-plus-70-yards race will bring together some of the best young horses in Northern California.

Free Daily Handicapping Seminars will be held near the paddock. Starting times for the seminars co-hosted by Dennis Miller and track announcer Chris Griffin are 12:30 p.m. on each Friday and 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

Daily specials include free parking, $2 Hot Dogs and T-shirt giveaway (while supplies last) on Thursday, plus $2 Beers, Food Trucks and free parking on Fridays. Sports fans will also be able to keep up with their favorite teams all day, every day of racing, in the Fan Cave lounge located on the second floor of the Budweiser Grandstand. The Fan Cave features large HD screens, comfortable seating areas and a full-service bar.

Popular “Racing & Tasting” events are back and include the Sip, Savor & Wager Wine Festival on September 23, Craftoberfest Craft Beer Festival presented by Tri-Valley Beer Trail on September 30 and the new Mixology Craft Cocktail Festival on October 1. All events will be held inside the grandstand from 2PM – 5PM. Tickets are available online for $30 in advance, or $40 at the door. Price includes unlimited sampling, special commemorative glass, racing program and tip sheet “All Access” passes to all three events can be purchased online for $60 (just $20 per event) at alamedacountyfair.com

Poker Run to the Races on Sunday, September 24, is a new, featured event this year where motorcycle riders can unite for some ride-to-the-Races fun and a shot at the $500 grand prize. Participants collect poker cards at 5 stops along the 120-mile route then play to win cash. Ticket price includes admission, Poker Run T-shirt and lunch. Tickets are available online in advance for $30, or $40 at the event.

Also new this year, the Derby Dog Dash on September 23 calls all pint-sized pooches to the track for fun & prizes. All races are short-distance and entry is free at http://www.derbydogdash.com. Deadline to enter is September 20.
