Former Denny's Building Fire Under Investigation In Pleasanton

Firefighters have not yet determined the cause of the fire, which started Tuesday morning at the former site of Denny's in Pleasanton.

PLEASANTON, CA — The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department spent Tuesday morning battling a blaze at the former site of Denny's in Pleasanton, 6455 Owens Drive.

Dark, thick smoke was visible from the freeway and hung over the street as firefighters tried to quench the flames. No injuries were reported and the cause has not yet been determined, Deputy Fire Chief Joe Testa said in a statement.

The report first came in at 9:23 a.m. and the fire was under control by 10 a.m. Crews remained on scene early Monday afternoon extinguishing remaining lingering patches of fire, he said.

The Pleasanton Police Department asked drivers to stay away from Owens Drive between Hopyard Road and Johnson Drive.

Firefighters arrived five minutes later, headed inside the building and started fighting the fire, Testa said. It grew quickly and firefighters began battling the flames outside, spraying water into the building from hoses and ladders.

Police and fire officials will conduct an investigation when it's safe to enter the building, Testa said.

Denny's closed nearly four years ago and the owner wants to replace the building with a commercial complex, Pleasanton Weekly reported late last year.
