The inventor of the Ice Cream Float or Ice Cream Soda must have been very proud -- his will instructed that "Originator of the Ice Cream Soda" be engraved on his tombstone!
According to Wikipedia, Ice Cream Floats may have been invented in 1874 by Robert McCay Green in Philadelphia as a way to attract customers away from another vendor who had a fancier, bigger soda fountain.
