PLEASANTON, CA — The Pleasanton Police Department is giving a shout out to one of its own, and for very good reason.

Pleasanton Animal Services Officer Frankie Ayers responded to the Kincade Fire last week to help residents evacuating their pets. She also stayed in the fire zone to care for horses and other animals that could not be evacuated.

Ayers grew up in Sonoma County, so the area is "dear to my heart," she said. Her family still lives in the county and was evacuated due to the blaze, which left Ayers to rescue her sister's bird.

This is not the first time Ayers has responded to a fire emergency. In 2017, she went to the Tubbs Fire to care for pets stranded by the devastating blaze.

"Well done ASO Ayers!"
