Garré Winery Makes Free Meals for Healthcare Workers
Chef Abe and his Staff Cooking a 100 Meals a Day
LIVERMORE, CA - Healthcare workers are working non-stop to fight the recent coronavirus outbreak, and a local winery is leading an effort to support them.
“I think it is important for the community to come together and help the ones who are fighting for us every day. What we can do to express our gratitude is give them free meals during this time,” said Chef Abe Ahmari of Garré Vineyard & Winery.
On April 3rd, the team at the Livermore Valley winery owned by Bob Molinaro decided to keep its café open and support a small kitchen staff to make 100 gourmet meals for a different medical facility in the area each day. The Livermore Valley Chamber of Commerce has arranged for the meals to be delivered gratis by Whitecastle Tours to Kaiser Permanente medical clinics and offices in Livermore, Pleasanton, Dublin and San Ramon.

Chef Abe and his team have been working hard to get the 100 meals out every day in addition to the café’s take out orders. The caregiver meals have included flank steak and vegetables with potatoes, beef fajitas with rice and pasta with Bolognese sauce—all packaged individually in microwaveable containers.
“Sysco and US Foods have graciously donated some protein, but now our problem is finding the funds for produce and more protein. We need help from the public so we can continue these deliveries,” said Chef Abe.

A GoFundMe created by Jeanie Haigh was successful in raising $1500 that allowed Chef Abe to purchase food containers. A new GoFundMe has just been created to help buy ingredients for the meals.
Chef Abe believes, “In the next few weeks, these meals will be more crucial than ever so we need to continue helping as much as we can.”
