The Chabot College baseball team opened conference play in fine style, taking two of three against longtime rival College of San Mateo.

The Glads took games two and three, each by one run after dropping the opener. In Saturday’s finale, a trio of Gladiators played key roles in a 5-4 triumph that head coach Will Tavis called a “great team win.”

Kolin Fukuki was 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI. Sam Heyman went 6.1 innings, allowing five hits. Carson Glavich worked 1.2 innings and struck out three. Heyman, a freshman right-hander, is having a strong season with a 3-1 record and 2.25 ERA. Designated hitter Kacen Shreffler walked twice and scored twice in the win.
