Gun-Safety Forum & Vigil Planned In Tri-Valley

Public invited to student-led event Friday, April 20 in downtown Pleasanton, along with a vigil commemoration to Columbine shooting victims.

PLEASANTON, CA – A Tri-Valley Community Forum for Gun Safety, organized by local student activists, will be held Friday, April 20 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Inklings Coffee & Tea at 530 Main St. in downtwon Pleasanton.

The forum will be followed by a 7:30 p.m. vigil outside the Firehouse Arts Center, at 4444 Railroad Ave. in Pleasanton, marking the 19th anniversary of the mass shooting at Columbine High School in Littleton, CO.

Area residents are invited to attend and share their views on gun-reform ideas.

"We wish to emphasize that diverse opinions will be heartily welcomed and respected, for it is only with such cordial conversations can any progress be made on firearms reform," said the event's student organizers from Tri-Valley March for Our Lives.

The group led hundreds of students, teachers and parents from Pleasanton, Dublin and Livermore in the Tri-Valley March For Our Lives 2018 in March.

"Everybody knows somebody personally who has experienced gun violence," said Tri-Valley resident Kyoko Takayama, a community organizer for Organizing for Action, East Bay Central Chapter. "It's getting more and more common, and people have their own stories."
