“Harvesting Hope” brings a Month of “Socially Distanced” Service

Women, children and youth of the Pleasanton Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints participated in a month long service initiative to bring "hope" to local residents through donations to several local agencies to bring hope to seniors, children and even horses.

Activities ranged from creating cards for home-bound seniors, tying blankets for neglected children, donating diapers and clothing to Hively, to random acts of kindness in our neighborhoods and homes!

One weekend was dedicated to the "Amazing Service Race" in which families, teams or individuals "competed" to see how many kind acts they could complete with assigned point values. These simple acts strengthened neighborhood bonds, brought smiles, encouraged family unity and uplifted recipients.

On October 24th, projects of the "Harvesting Hope" service initiative were collected and distributed to local organizations.

  • 115 blankets were donated to “Blankets for Kids”.
  • 140 pumpkins were painted by children and youth and given to “Senior Support of the Tri-Valley”, “Meals on Wheels” and the Pleasanton Senior Center to uplift isolated seniors.
  • Over 200 seasonal cards were handmade for Seniors.
  • 59 reusable bags were sewn for “Big Bay Ray” – proceeds will be used to rescue neglected horses, providing food, veterinary services, shelter and adoption. Some rescue horses are used in teen drug and alcohol recovery programs.
  • 3,321 Diapers and over 4,000 wipes were given to Hively to assist low income families as well as a U-Haul truck full of clothing, shoes and books.
  • 820 acts of Kindness were reported

The goal was to join together, at a distance, to help those who could use a little hope at this time. These Pleasanton and Dublin residents succeeded through this enriching and fulfilling experience while blessing the lives of many local individuals!

In addition, a blood drive was held for the Red Cross giving volunteers the opportunity to help save a life.

144 boxes of Diapers were donated to "Bundles of Joy", a service of the Lynnewood United Methodist Church to provide newborn kits to needy families.
