Head-On Crash on Hwy 84 Tears Truck in Half

A Sig-alert was issued for both directions of state Highway 84 due to a head-on collision that injured both drivers and split a pickup truck in half this morning near Pleasanton in Alameda County, according to firefighters.

Crews were called to the scene of the wreck just east of Interstate Highway 680 on Highway 84, also known as Vallecitas Road, at 10:36 a.m. and a Sig-alert was issued by the California Highway Patrol at 10:55 a.m.

A Toyota Tundra and a U-Haul truck crashed head-on, tearing the Tundra in half and rolling the U-Haul over on its side, according to Battalion Chief Stephanie Radecke with the Alameda County Fire Department.

One driver was transported to a hospital by helicopter and the other was transported by ground ambulance, Radecke said. Wet roads may have been a factor in the collision. The crash created debris and one of the vehicles also leaked fuel into the roadway.

Radecke expected the roadway to remain closed until at least 1 p.m. as crews cleaned up the scene, according to Radecke. Firefighters from the Alameda County Fire Department, Cal Fire and the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department responded to the incident.
