Wendy Smith: Navigating Through Pleasanton's Frozen Yogurt Shops

Here's a round-up of frozen yogurt shops around town.

The summer heat has arrived in full force enticing Pleasanton residents to look for cool summer treat options.  With five relatively new frozen yogurt shops in town, I decided to venture out on the frozen yogurt tundra to find the best.

Viva Yogurt Café is located in the Hopyard Village Shopping Center at Hopyard and Valley.  They offer eight self-serve flavors with Cake Batter being the most popular flavor with their younger customers.  To make your yogurt experience even sweeter, they also offer fresh fruit and crumbled candy toppings. Viva Yogurt Café touts no artificial flavors, colors, preservatives, or high fructose corn syrup in the products.

Who can resist this taste of creamy heaven when a four-ounce serving is just under 100 calories and only $0.38 an ounce?  Don't forget to pick up your frequent buyer card before you leave. Also on the menu is the Fizzy Lizzy, a blend of whole fruit juice and sparkling water in eight different flavors.

Berrytree Frozen Yogurt, located at Santa Rita and Valley, provides fewer flavors and is a non-self-serve yogurt shop.  They offer exclusively organic options.  Their prices start $2.50 for the  small Original Tart flavor.  Plan on bringing a few extra dollars if you want one of their twenty-plus toppings selections including fresh berries, candy, and nuts.

Berrytree Frozen Yogurt also offers a frequent buyer card in addition to a 10% discount to those with a student ID.

Located off of Main Street on Division Street is Yolatea.  Although this self-serve frozen yogurt shop is clearly designed with yogurt in mind, they offer more to entice your sweet tooth.  On the menu are sorbet, gelato, crepes, and flavored teas.  At $0.41 per ounce, the yogurt is a little pricier compared to the other shops I visited, but the experience is well worth the few extra nickels.

"I really like Yolatea," says Rosemary Martinez, a downtown beautician.  "With the summer months ahead, I look forward to cooling off with a yogurt treat during my work day."

A little further down off of Main Street on West Anglea Street is Yogofina Frozen Yogurt.  With a dozen self-serve options, Yogofina provides a delicious and fun family experience by providing outside  seating to enjoy your frozen treat in the summer sun.  Their prices are reasonable at $0.39 per ounce.  And although they don't offer any specials at this time, they are planning on providing return customers with a "Buy 8, get one free" offer in the near future.

Finally, for the "yogaholic" in all of us is Yogaholic, located on the corner of Bernal and Vineyard. This shop serves eight different flavors, numerous toppings to choose from, and organic fruit. They also charge a mere $.39 per ounce and supply a frequent buyer yogurt card for all of your yogaholic needs.

Five shops and numerous yogurt flavors later, I found it difficult to name any one shop "The Best" in Pleasanton.  Whether you're looking for a sugary frozen treat at a good price, great deals for return customers, or yogurt al natural, Pleasanton provides an array of options and flavors to tempt any sweet tooth in town.
