Isaacs Named Athletic Director at Foothill
Former basketball coach replaces outgoing AD John Mannion

Former Foothill High boys basketball coach Randy Isaacs will be the next athletic director at Foothill he confirmed Wednesday.
He replaces John Mannion, who, in March, accepted a job to become the football coach at Silverton High in Silverton, Oreg.
"Even since I've been at Foothill there have been quality AD's from Tom Hansen to Matt Sweeney to John Mannion," said Isaacs, who graduated from Foothill in 1982 and coached basketball at the school for 19 years. "The opportunity kind of presented itself and I saw it as my turn to step up to that role."
Isaacs had a succesful 14-year run as the head varsity basketball coach, which included North Coast Section and Northern California championships in 2000 before stepping down following the 2007-2008 season when he was replaced by Ryan Lloyd.

"(After I stepped down) there was definitely a void in my daily routine," Isaacs said. "In some ways it was welcomed, but there was definitely a void."
When Mannion announced he was departing for Oregon, the athletic director job wasn't something Isaacs immediately thought he'd pursue.

"I was pretty hesitant at first because I wasn't sure it was something I'd like to do," he said. "But the more I thought about it, the more I realized I've been doing a lot of the roles in a non-official capacity anyways — the supervision, the eligibility hearings, some other stuff — so it was my turn."
The Foothill athletic department's reputation as a close-knit group is something Isaacs said traces back to Hansen.
"We were all a big family when he was here and we've been able to keep that going in the last five years since he retired," Isaacs said.
Isaacs also teaches math and physical education at Foothill.
