JustServe Energizes Local High School Students

There's a new club in town!

Actually, there are two new clubs—JustServe Clubs at both Foothill High School and Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton. JustServe.org brings together volunteers with organizations to do good things for our community.

In a recent project students and leaders, together with VFW members, united to make and install permanent flag holders at the graves of veterans in the Pleasanton Pioneer Cemetery. Meetings were held with the City of Pleasanton and the American Legion to determine what would be needed. Generous local businesses helped with the cost of materials and equipment required to make the flag holders.

Three separate work meetings were held where over 60 youth volunteers participated in cutting 310 pieces of PVC pipe and drilling 620 caps for the flag holders. Three test run meetings were also held to test the equipment and learn how to drill into the hard ground.

On Saturday, November 5th , the hard work paid off as 25 student volunteers joined with community members to install over 300 flag holders at the Pioneer Cemetery. The youth were energized to have the satisfying experience of building unity and a better community through service.

A big thank you to the City of Pleasanton, Richert Lumber, and our friends at Makita Tool, many adult helpers and especially the volunteers from Foothill and Amador JustServe Clubs for making this happen. The new flag holders were in place for their first Veterans Day observance the following week.
