The 35-year-old program teaches people who live and work in Pleasanton all about what makes their city run.

PLEASANTON, CA — Applications are open for Leadership Pleasanton, a 35-year-old program that teaches residents how their city runs.
Leadership Pleasanton was created in 1988 and has produced more than 800 graduates, according to a program news release. Each fall, 30 people who live and work in Pleasanton participate in monthly, daylong programs that aim to develop community leaders. Topics include Pleasanton history, local government, health and human services, business and economics, education, public safety, infrastructure and recreation.
The course is open to anyone living or working in Pleasanton with a desire to reinforce their involvement in the community, learn more about how to make a difference, and join a network of personal and professional contacts.

“The continuance of this program is critical to the overall success and understanding of how a city works, makes laws and legislation that affect the business, economic, and employment base within our community along with city services and the non-profit communities that serve our community,” said Maria DeBenedetti, a graduate of the class of 2023. “Public safety services, healthcare, and infrastructure are critically necessary to support community, businesses, and residents alike so we can feel safe, thrive, and prosper together.”
The course takes place on the second Thursday of the month starting in the fall, and applicants are expected to attend all sessions. The course is open to 30 people and costs $950, which covers program materials, transportation, lunch, and a graduation celebration. Some scholarships and partial scholarships are available.
