Bronze Star Medal Given To Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Captain
Captain Ken Atkinson was given the prestigious award for his service during a 6-month deployment to Afghanistan.

PLEASANTON, CA — A Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department Captain was recently awarded the prestigious Bronze Star Medal for his service as a U.S. Army Green Beret, fire officials said. Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Captain Ken Atkinson was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his service in combat during a 6-month deployment to Afghanistan in 2017.
The award, commonly referred to as the Bronze Star, is awarded to those in the armed forces who distinguish themselves through meritorious achievements or heroic service in a combat zone. Atkinson continues to serve in the U.S. Army National Guard.
Atkinson, who has been with the fire department since 1996, also completed the United States Army Special Forces Qualification Course and language training prior to deployment. In 2007, he was promoted to captain.
