Madden Memorial Scheduled At RingCentral Coliseum In Oakland
A public memorial celebrating the life of famed broadcaster John Madden will be held Feb. 14 at Oakland's RingCentral Coliseum.

PLEASANTON, CA — A public memorial celebrating the life of famed Pleasanton sports broadcaster John Madden will be held Feb. 14 at the RingCentral Coliseum in Oakland at 5:30 p.m., the Madden family announced Monday.
"It had been previously announced for February 15th, but the Coliseum has been secured for one more Monday Night Football event!" the Madden family said in a statement.
Tickets will be available on Ticketmaster later this week, according to an NFL.com report. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Madden Charities to provide educational opportunities for Oakland youth. More details can be found on the RingCentral Coliseum website.

John Madden, 85, the Hall of Fame coach and broadcaster who became one of the most recognizable voices on television over several decades, died Dec. 28.
Madden, 85, of Pleasanton died the morning of Dec. 28. He retired in 2009 at 73 after a four-decade career in football.

Madden rose to fame as the coach of the Oakland Raiders, leading the renegade team to their first Super Bowl victory in 1977.
He first retired in 1979 and joined CBS. In his time as a broadcaster, he won 16 Emmy Awards and became known for his exuberant calls combined with simple explanations.
Madden and his wife Virginia lived in Pleasanton from 1967 until his death, and became fixtures of the communities.
In 2009, the couple helped preserve an important staple in the community, the Augustine Bernal Adobe, a historic home against the foothills, Pleasanton Weekly reported.
The old adobe home was the place where Madden retreated after long trips to the south, Midwest and East Coast during football seasons.
