Many Parents do not know How to Cook

Home is where the heart is. It's also where the kids use to eat home cooked meals as a family. This rarely happens anymore because the kids are so structured, rushed to activities, and eating on the run. Children are suffering the consequences. School lunches used to be far more nutritious, but now most of the food for kids is processed. Many parents today don’t even know how to cook. Young parents today think cooking takes too much time. My mom use to fill the fridge with sliced up carrot sticks, celery, and radish in tuperware containers. When I got home from school as a kid, guess what I grabbed as a snack? You guessed it - raw veggies! OK it does require some pre-planning and pre-chopping. Learning to plan your meals may actually reduce your stress. You are role-modeling on so many levels - from organization, to reduced stress, to healthy eating habits. Many people resort to fast foods and processed foods simply because they’re too frazzled at the end of their work day to figure out what to cook. Planning a menu and shopping ahead could actually turn meal time into a more relaxed time spent with family. And most importantly - you are building your kid's brain function with nutritious foods so they can cope with their very busy schedules.
