Marine Vet speaks at Memorial Day Observance

Joe Rollins served in the Viet Nam War

Joe Rollins, a Marine Corps veteran of the Viet Nam war spoke at a Memorial Day Breakfast in Pleasanton. Joe brought photos of his company, his best friend who was killed in the war and photos of his three purple heart certificates he received. Joe joined the war effort as a young man and did two tours in Viet Nam, and was wounded three times. During one battle, 76 were wounded, 29 died and there were less than 30 who survived without any wounds, he being one of them.

It was a very heartfelt and emotional experience to hear Joe speak about his experiences and many expressed their appreciation for his service. Memorial Day was established as a day to remember service members killed during military conflicts.

A wonderful breakfast was served to those who attended the service in the parking lot of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Paseo Santa Cruz in Pleasanton, where a delicious pancake breakfast was served from the grill of Lowell Hoxey, well known “grill master” from Sunol.
