New Chief Takes Helm Of Pleasanton Police
Morgan Hill Police Chief David L. Swing will begin in his new role April 13, the Pleasanton Police Department said.

PLEASANTON, CA — Morgan Hill Police Chief David L. Swing will serve as Pleasanton's top cop on Monday, April 13, the City of Pleasanton announced Tuesday.
The announcement follows a months-long search initiated after longtime Police Chief Dave Spiller announced his retirement plans in October. He became the city's sixth chief in 2011.
Swing has been a policeman for 25 years, beginning as a reserve officer with Morgan Hill police in 1995. He was named the department's chief in 2011.

“I am honored and thrilled to be entrusted with this amazing opportunity," he said in a statement. "I look forward to getting to know the community and the dedicated women and men of the Pleasanton Police Department; working together to continue and enhance the culture of proactive community policing and exceptional service provided to our residents and guests."
Swing has experience in managing a budget, community engagement and using new law enforcement technology, the city said in the statement.

He teaches a management course at the South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium.
Swing received a public administration degree from San Jose State University and graduated the Police Officer Standards and Training Command College with an executive certification.
