Pleasanton Schools Jump In Bay Area Rankings: Niche (patch.com) — Pleasanton families can see how their schools stack up, with Pleasanton Unified ranked second in Alameda County and fifth in the Bay Area, yet still earning top marks for teaching quality. Amador Valley and Foothill high schools both received A+ overall grades, highlighting strong academics and college prep even as facilities and food earned lower marks.
   

2. 'Pumpkins After Dark' Debuts At Alameda County Fairgrounds (patch.com) — Pleasanton families can explore the new Pumpkins After Dark walk-through at the Alameda County Fairgrounds all October, with thousands of hand-carved pumpkins and large glowing displays. The family-friendly attraction runs Thursday through Sunday evenings Oct. 2–31, with timed tickets required and live carving demos adding to the Halloween atmosphere.
   

3. Kaiser lays off 147 employees in California (mercurynews.com) — Kaiser Permanente plans to cut 147 administrative jobs statewide in November, including 22 positions in Pleasanton and 12 in Oakland. The health system says no direct patient-care roles are affected and promises severance and career support, but Pleasanton workers in business and administrative offices will still feel the impact of the restructuring.

Love, Family and the Midway: A Butler Amusements Wedding at Alameda County Fair (carnivalwarehouse.com) — A longtime Butler Amusements staffer chose Pleasanton's Alameda County Fairgrounds for a uniquely carnival-themed wedding, complete with a Sky Ride entrance and Ferris wheel photos. Surrounded by both her biological family and her fair family, she celebrated at the on-site Farmhouse Restaurant, highlighting how closely knit the fair community in Pleasanton has become over decades.
   

5. Voters Face Delay On Minimum Wage Increase Decision (independentnews.com) — Pleasanton workers won't see a $30 minimum wage vote this November, after Alameda County supervisors pushed the decision to the March 2028 statewide ballot and ordered a competing measure. The proposal would dramatically raise pay in unincorporated areas, while Pleasanton and other Tri-Valley cities currently follow the county's $16.90 minimum and could face economic ripple effects if nearby businesses must pay more.
