PG&E Releases List of Pipelines at Risk
Top 100 pipeline segments to be evaluated. Pleasanton is not on the list, but PG&E says nearby pipelines in Livermore need further evaluation.
PG&E released the Top 100 at-risk pipelines to the California Public Utilities Commission earlier today and posted the information on its site.
Those on the list are designated for further study and long-range planning because there is a potential for third-party damage, potential for corrosion and risks from ground movements or earthquakes. The pipelines also are being studied because of age and the type of materials used.
No pipes on the list are in Pleasanton, but some border the city.

Here are the lines PG&E is evaluating for possible replacement near Pleasanton:
- 13,835 feet of pipe between Livermore and Arroyo del Valle, because of design materials used and potential ground movement. The section is across the open hills from south Livermore to Arroyo del Valle.
- 14,730 feet of pipe between Arroyo del Valle and Foleys Crossover, south of Livermore from Arroyo del Valle to the Valecitos Valley, because of design materials used and potential ground movement. The section is south of Livermore from Arroyo del Valle to the Vallecitos Valley.
- 4,990 feet of pipeline between Ruby Hills to Foleys Crossover in Livermore because of potential ground movement. This pipeline is on the steep slopes over Pigeon Pass near Hwy. 84 south of Livermore.
- 1,350 feet of pipe at Calaveras Road, Sunol because of potential ground movement. The report indicates the need for a replacement on the section on a steep, 26 percent sloping, hillside in the Sunol Valley immediately northeast of the Calaveras Fault, just southeast of I-680. Construction is in progress.
- 19,115 feet of pipe between Foleys Crossover and Calaveras Road may need to be replaced because of potential ground movement. The section is across the open hills through the Vallecitos Valley to Calaveras Road in Sunol.
- 7,000 feet of pipe between Vasco Road and Dalton Crossover may need replacement because of potential ground movement. The section is on steep slopes from the North Livermore Valley to Vasco Road.
In addition to the updated map and list of questionable pipelines, customers can call the PG&E pipeline helpline at 1-888-743-7431 to determine whether they live within 500 feet of gas transmission pipelines.

The release of the risky pipelines comes in the wake of the recent San Bruno explosion that killed seven people. The San Bruno section that ruptured was not part of this list.
