Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council Hosts Benefit Concert

Funds gained from the annual concerts are granted for a variety of arts programs and needs in Pleasanton schools.

PLEASANTON, CA - From the Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council: This year's benefit concert on Friday, March 1st, starting at 8 p.m. at Pleasanton's Firehouse Arts Center, will feature "The Royal Jelly Jive Band," a unique musical experience relative to previous classical music concerts sponsored by the Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council. The Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council is a 50 year old non-profit organization devoted to supporting arts in the schools and the community.

The Royal Jelly Jive Band is a very popular San Francisco band that combines high energy swing, soul, rock and hip-hop elements. “San Francisco Soul” is a term sometimes used to describe the band's unique and intoxicating sound. The band features a sultry voiced lead singer, swinging horns, gritty piano keys and a bumping rhythm section. The band's unique sound and dance party energy sweeps crowds off their feet at sold out shows and festivals across the U.S. including the BottleRock Music Festival in Napa Valley.

Led by dynamic front-woman Lauren Bjelde, the sultry sextet rocks into uncharted musical territories with an infectious blend of modern and throwback sensibilities. Retro horns, razor-sharp beats, and groovy songs creates a smokey jazz club feel that can shake up even the funkiest dance party.

"We were very excited the RJJ group will bring its talents and name recognition to this fundraiser concert for the 'Arts in the Schools Grant Program' says Kelly Cousins, President of PCAC. According to Cousins, proceeds from the concert will be used to help provide Pleasanton school teachers and their students with a variety of supplies and services that enhance creative and cultural arts. Funds gained from the annual concerts are granted for a variety of programs and needs such as wireless microphones for drama programs, potter's wheels, computers and cameras for media classes, piano dollies and technical support among the many other grant requests
funded over the years. Previous school grants from PCAC have helped to reinstate the school orchestra and strings programs after a long absence in PUSD.
