Pleasanton Native Named To Bay Area Sports Hall Of Fame
Foothill High graduate and retired Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford is one of five local athletes to be honored.
PLEASANTON, CA - Retired Giants shortstop and Pleasanton native Brandon Crawford will be inducted into the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame in May, the organization announced Wednesday.
Crawford joins 49ers lineman Jesse Sapolu, UC Berkeley rugby Coach Jack Clark, Olympic Gold Medal winning swimmer Missy Franklin, and Olympic Gold Medal winning sprinter Eddie Hart. The class of 2026 joins more than 200 athletes inducted into the Hall of Fame since its inception in 1979.
“The 2026 class of the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame features five extremely worthy individuals who have made a tremendous impact in their sport and in our region,” said BASHOF Board Chair Mario Alioto in a statement. “It’s a distinguished group that features Super Bowl and World Series Champions, Olympic Gold medalists, and NCAA National Champions and we are thrilled for them to take their rightful place among the other legends enshrined in the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame.”

“Being from the Bay Area, all my favorite players are in the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame, so it’s very humbling and a huge honor for me,” Crawford told The Mountain View Voice through a Giants spokesperson.
Crawford, 38, is the three-time All-Star player and two-time World Series winner who graduated Foothill High School in 2005, where he was the starting quarterback for the football team and also played basketball and baseball.

He always dreamed of playing for the San Francisco Giants, his “hometown team.” His dream came true in 2008 when he was drafted to play for the Giants, where he developed into what many consider the greatest shortstop of all time. During his distinguished career, Crawford was a three-time All Star, a four-time Golden Glove winner, and a recipient of the Silver Slugger Award. He helped bring his team to two World Series championships, and was the sixth player in MLB history to hit a grand slam in his first game.
After 13 seasons with the Giants, Crawford signed with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2024. He played for the Cardinals for one season before announcing his retirement. He finishes his career with a .249 lifetime average, 147 home runs, and 1,404 hits, according to MLB.com. He retired in December 2024.
Crawford and the four other honorees will be inducted at the Hall of Fame Enshrinement Dinner on May 14 at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco. Visit bashof.org for more information. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Special Olympics Northern California.
