Pleasanton Offers Teen Leadership in Training Program

The City of Pleasanton’s Community Services Department launches a leadership program for teens this summer that provides comprehensive training and placement in a volunteer position to work closely with city staff for a minimum of four weeks.

The Leadership in Training (LIT) Program is for students entering grades 9 through 12 in fall of 2013 and provides teens with the opportunity to develop job skills and prepare for future employment through training, hands-on experience, and evaluation. There is limited space in the program and applicants must be Pleasanton residents to be considered.

A mandatory LIT training conducted by City of Pleasanton staff is scheduled from June 24-28, 2013 and will cover job skills, customer service, leadership and interviewing. Students who complete the training will be placed in a volunteer position and work closely with city staff in a number of departments, including Community Services (sports, aquatics, drama/summer camps, or Firehouse Arts Center), the City Operation Services Center, police, or the library. Students are required to volunteer 2-3 days per week for a minimum of four weeks of the LIT session. Session dates are July 1-August 9 and schedules are contingent upon the respective site that a student is assigned to.
