Pleasanton PD Cuts 'Nixle' Text Info To Emergency Alerts Only
Messages will pertain to "red alert" situations and will no longer include such non-emergency notifications as street closings, police said.

PLEASANTON, CA – Beginning Monday, "Nixle" text messages sent from the Pleasanton Police Department to residents will fall only under such "emergency" categories as natural disasters or shelter-in-place orders, and will no longer include less crucial, non-emergency notifications, authorities announced today.
"This means you will no longer receive text messages about things like community events, road closures and 'avoid the area' notices," the department said, adding that such information can still be received by email.
Police said the shift in notifications is financial. "In a message to the department, Nixle noted increasing costs of SMS messages as the reason for the change," the agency said.

Locals interested in receiving "green, yellow and red" emails from the Pleasanton police can sign up at Nixle.com, the department said, while apologizing for "any inconvenience this change may cause."
Launched in 2007, Nixle's aim was to connect public safety agencies, cities, schools, businesses and communities through text, email, voice messages, social media and the Nixle mobile app.
