Pleasanton Police Receive $50K To Increase Traffic Safety

Police say they plan to use the grant for additional enforcement and community education programs to reduce injuries and accidents.

PLEASANTON, CA — The Pleasanton Police Department received a $50,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety to help reduce road injuries and deaths through increased enforcement and education.

The grant program, which runs through September 2024, will provide additional programs and resources, including:

  • DUI checkpoints
  • Distracted driving enforcement operations
  • Enforcement operations to combat behaviors shown to be most dangerous to pedestrians and cyclists
  • Enforcement operations on violations that cause crashes like speeding,failure to yield, etc.
  • Community presentations on safety issues like distracted driving, impaired driving, speeding, and cyclist and pedestrian safety
  • Collaborative enforcement efforts with neighboring agencies
  • Officer training and recertification for Standard Field Sobriety Test, Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement, and Drug Recognition Effort

“This funding will strengthen our commitment to public safety in our community,” PPD Sgt. Steve Ayers said in a news release. “We will be able to increase our efforts in making our roads safer for everyone and focus on critical areas such as distracted driving, impaired driving and speeding.”

Dublin Police Services received an $81,000 grant from OTS for a similar purpose, and the San Ramon Police Department received a $40,000 grant.
