Pleasanton School District Names New Superintendent

Dr. David Haglund will take over his new role on July 1.

PLEASANTON, CA – Dr. David Haglund was unanimously appointed Tuesday as the new Superintendent of Pleasanton Unified School District by a board of trustees vote. Haglund begins his tenure July 1.

"I am honored to have been selected as PUSD's next superintendent," Haglund said. "Pleasanton schools are blessed with great teachers and support staff and a community of parents and students that reach for and achieve excellence in many ways. I look forward to meeting with the Pleasanton community to hear their thoughts and partner in the work that lies ahead."

Haglund served since 2013 as the Deputy Superintendent of Educational Services and Chief Academic Officer for the Santa Ana Unified School District, located in Orange County and the seventh largest school district in California.

Prior to his work with Santa Ana Unified, Haglund served as Director of Educational Options and then Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Support at the Riverside Unified School District, PUSD said.

President Joan Laursen. “His collaborative leadership style combined with his support for innovation will
ensure that the District continues its mission in preparing all Pleasanton students to be resourceful, resilient, responsible and engaged world citizens. We are confident that Dr. Haglund will help drive the continued success of our schools, students and community.”

Across his 29-year career in education, Haglund also has held positions as a classroom teacher, principal
and district administrator. He started his educational career as a Social Science teacher in Rialto Unified School District and holds a Doctorate of Education from the University of Southern California.
