Pleasanton Schools' Truancy Rate Below State Average
Highest rates are at the high schools. What should educators do to tackle this issue?

About a fifth of Pleasanton Unified students were reported as truant during the past school year, according to information released by the state superintendent's office.
The district's 20 truancy rate is below both the state average and the county average.
Truancy is defined as any student who misses 30 minutes or more of class time without a valid excuse at least three times in one school year.

The highest rate in the district was found at Village Continuation High with 49 percent.
It was followed by Amador Valley High at 38 percent and Foothill High at 37 percent.

The middle schools were between 10 and 15 percent while the elementary schools ranged from 2 percent to 18 percent.
