Pleasanton Senior Home Wages Super Bowl Bet With KC Seniors
Napa Valley wines and Kansas City ribs and brisket are at stake in a bet between senior living communities in Pleasanton and Kansas City.
PLEASANTON, CA — If the San Francisco 49ers pull off a win against the Kansas City Chiefs on Super Bowl Sunday, the residents of Pleasanton senior community Stoneridge Creek will be eating good.
Stoneridge Creek is waging a bet with Claridge Court, a Kansas City senior home, ahead of the game. If the Chiefs pull off a victory, residents of the Kansas City community will be sipping on Napa Valley wines, at Stoneridge Creek's expense.
But if the Niners win — as Stoneridge Creek Executive Director Zeke Griffin expects — Pleasanton residents will feast on ribs, brisket and beans from Jack Stack Barbecue in Kansas City, courtesy of Claridge Court.

"We're offering our best, as far as what's out here in our backyards," Griffin said.
Both communities are passionate about their local teams and hope to see their teams bring home a win, he said. It's the first time Stoneridge Creek has made such a wager, but the "residents are really psyched," he said.

Griffin said Stoneridge Creek hosted a town hall-style event ahead of the Super Bowl. When he asked if there were any Chiefs fans in the audience, he was booed.
On Super Bowl Sunday, Griffin said, many of the community's 810 residents will likely be seen wearing 49ers jerseys and waving 49ers flags. The community has planned some Super Bowl activities to boost camaraderie, he said.
Griffin and the Stoneridge Creek residents are expecting a tough game against their Super Bowl rival. But he also thinks the odds are good that Stoneridge Creek residents will be digging into racks of ribs soon.
"I don't think we're going to lose," he said.
