Pleasanton Woman Collects Donations For Carr Fire Victims

'It was an incredibly emotional yet rewarding experience.'

PLEASANTON, CA — A Pleasanton woman who delivered donations to wildfire victims in Shasta County said the experience was “incredibly emotional yet rewarding.” Sandy Schneider told Patch she wanted to use her time and skills to help those who lost their homes and belongings in the deadly Carr Fire. School officials said more than one-third of the students at Shasta Elementary School lost their home during the blaze.

Schneider enlisted the help of the community to collect donations and delivered them to the staff, parents and students at the school about two weeks later.

Schneider said donations of backpacks, baby items, children's and work clothes for parents, hygiene products, gift cards, bicycles and toys all poured in and were temporarily stored by Gloria Corfias-Palmer, who offered her property as a storage facility. Local businesses, including U-Haul, Richert Lumber and California Pizza Kitchen, rallied to provide goods and services to support the drive.
