Dublin Boy With Rare Disease To Get Bike Thanks To Community

DUBLIN, CA — A Dublin boy who suffers from a rare genetic disease will soon be able to enjoy riding a bicycle with this dad thanks to members of his community. The "Wheel for Wheels" fundraiser held at Kolb Park earlier this month was created to help buy 13-year-old Gabriel Peninella a special $6,000 bike so he can explore the world with his father, who is an avid bicyclist.
Between the fundraiser and the community donations, Gabriel will get his custom bicycle in about six weeks. The fundraiser was shared by members of the community, the school district and police department.
The Cottonwood Creek student suffers from L1 Cam Syndrome, a rare genetic disease which affects 1 in 30,000 boys. L1 Cam Syndrome prevents Gabriel from being fully mobile, according to his family.
