Quick-Thinking Parent Credited With Preventing Fire, Chaos At Pleasanton School

BREAKING: The morning drop-off was a bit more dramatic than usual at one Pleasanton elementary school campus Thursday.

PLEASANTON, CA — A quick-thinking parent is credited for avoiding a potentially disastrous and chaotic situation at a Pleasanton elementary school Thursday morning. According to police, a parent driver waiting in the drop-off line at Vintage Hills Elementary School heard a loud pop and noticed smoke coming from her car just before 8:15 a.m., police officials said.

The parent quickly pulled out of the line and off the school grounds, stopping in a nearby driveway in the 900 block of Concord Street. The woman escaped from her car, which caught fire. Police said the property owner and neighbors rushed outside to help and move nearby cars.

Fire crews arrived and were able to quickly extinguish the blaze. No one was injured during the incident, police said. The cause of the fire is not known.
