Rescue in Pleasanton: Little Ducks Run Amok
Police officials say the mama duck watched nervously as officers worked to save her babies.
“Wabbit season” is over and duck season has arrived seemingly overnight in Pleasanton. Five ducklings were reportedly trapped in a drain in the Vintage Hills area last Thursday and had to be rescued by a very patient animal control officer.
On June 25, Animal Control Officer Frankie Blavet, who is new to the department, responded to Crellin Rd. to help the duck family and was able to save four of the five ducklings as the mama duck nervously watched nearby. One baby could not be rescued, according to police officials. The ducks were walked back to where mama had built her nest behind someone’s home.
Later in the day, eight more babies were rescued from a drain on Carducci Drive.

“The mama stood right next to the drain and officer while she lifted them all out one by one,” one official said. “When the last one was lifted out mama took stock realized all her ducks were in a row and walked off leading them away.”
Four more ducklings were found without their mama in a third incident.
