New Superintendent of Pleasanton Schools Appointed by School Board

Rick Rubino joins the district on July 1 after serving as Gridley USD Superintendent for last four years.

PLEASANTON, CA: The Pleasanton School Board is proud to announce the selection of Rick Rubino as the next Superintendent of the Pleasanton Unified School District. Rubino’s appointment was solidified with a unanimous vote during the school board’s April 19 meeting.

Rubino is filling the spot vacated by Parvin Ahmadi, who left in May of 2015 to take over as the Superintendent of the Castro Valley Unified School District. Jim Hansen was the interim superintendent for the 2015/16 school year while the district searched for a permanent superintendent.

Rubino has a wide range of experience in a number of leadership roles, most recently serving as the Superintendent of Gridley Unified School District for the last four years. Previously, Rubino spent 8 years in Martinez Unified School District as Director and then Assistant Superintendent of Personnel Services.

Before that Rubino served as Director of Certificated Personnel in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District for three years. At the school­site level, Rubino has 12 years experience as an elementary school principal in urban areas with highly diverse student populations in the Fremont and San Leandro Unified School Districts. He holds a Master of Science in Special Education from State University of New York and Master of Arts in Education Administration from San Francisco State University.

“Mr. Rubino has demonstrated success in the implementation of new instructional technology initiatives as well as creating high functioning teams, which were critical factors in our selection,” said Board President Jamie Hintzke. “He’s a proven leader committed to building strong community relationship and collaboration. We are thrilled to welcome Rick Rubino as the next leader for Pleasanton schools.”

At Gridley Unified School District, Rubino led for meaningful parent and community engagement while shaping the district’s first three Local Control Accountability Plans (LCAP) to create a shared vision for the future of its schools and student success.

In addition to his experience as an administrator, Rubino spent 11 years at the beginning of his career in the classroom. Rubino taught English and History for four years before working with students with learning disabilities as a Resource Specialist in Fremont Unified School District.

I look forward to working with the Board of Trustees and the entire District Leadership Team toward the continued greatness of the Pleasanton Unified School District,” said Rick Rubino. “I also look forward to working collaboratively with all of the constituent groups in the Pleasanton community including the administrators, teachers, classified staff, parents, community members and business partners to lead our students toward making a better world.”

Rubino will begin as Superintendent of Pleasanton Unified School District on July 1, 2016.
