Scottish Highland Games: Plaid, 'GOT' Actor, Sheepdogs

Those who attended the festival were treated to bagpipes, regional food, and stunning strength contests.

PLEASANTON, CA — Thousands turned out for the 153rd Scottish Highland Gathering & Games at the Alameda County Fairgrounds last weekend. The event, which is hosted by the The Caledonian Club of San Francisco, features Scottish traditions and dramatic athletic competitions including caber tossing, Dunsmuir dancers and fiddlers.

Actor Hafthor Bjornsson — known to "Game of Thrones" fans as "The Mountain" — joined Scottish actor Gary Lewis to sign autographs during the games.

Those who attended the festival were treated to bagpipes, regional food, sheepdog trials, vendors and hours of incredible strength contests. The first games were held in 1866 in San Francisco.
