Stoneridge Creek’s Legacy Project Documents Nearly 100 Veteran’s Stories of War

Resident Kate Kelly interviews and documents war accounts from Stoneridge Creek residents

History lives inside the walls of Stoneridge Creek senior living community, where residents are sharing untold accounts of war and combat that date back to World War II. Photos, discharge papers and even letters from U.S. presidents may never have been shared if it wasn’t for one resident.

Kate Kelly’s Legacy Project has united the nearly 600 residents at Stoneridge Creek, located in Pleasanton. So far, she’s interviewed and documented war accounts from 93 World War II, Korean, Cold War and Vietnam veterans. Their stories come to life in binders displayed in the community’s library.

Some of them saw the battlefield, while others worked in support roles as cooks and computer techs. Many saw friends make the ultimate sacrifice, adding to the meaning of this and every Memorial Day. Kate says each of these veterans captured a unique perspective of the wars, and she felt compelled to document their service to our country.

Many of these accounts have never been shared before, even with spouses and children. Some of the residents who have been interviewed before have now passed away, but their legacy lives on through this project.
