The British are Coming! The British are here!

Redcoats” British Pub & Restaurant in downtown Pleasanton has become the latest victim of the ever expanding “Foodnearu’ empire!

You know Redcoats; it’s the Trivia capital of the west coast.  If you don’t believe me try getting into the place during a Trivia night contest. Teams from every nook and cranny of the bay area pack the joint tighter than a Japanese metro car on Friday afternoon. By the way, the players are serious about their Trivia. I was on a team one night with what I thought were some fairly brainy people, (present company excepted obliviously…) and I believe we finished somewhere below the “Itinerant Artichoke Pickers”, “The Siamese Triple twins”, (none of whom spoke English) and a group whose name I cannot recall that were all wearing hard plastic blue helmets, (I believe it was for safety sake in case one them fell asleep…). We did however edge out one team called “We r Blonde hotties yes, but we all finished Kollidge”.  I guess one of them misspelled cat, and that proved to be the difference maker. (The judges, other male team members, and I all offered to assist that particular team with extra pencils, grammatical and spelling error checking, and extra cocktails just in case any of them were beginning to get dehydrated etc. Simply as a gesture of goodwill mind you… Why I even offered my personal phone number to the entire team, remarking that I would be more than happy to be a private tutor for any one of them. A courteous chivalrous noble-minded act on my part thought I.)

Redcoats” is also a wonderful British Pub with authentic and delicious food of the culture. Mary Kennard the owner and hands on owner of “Redcoats” has a gorgeous accent so thick you can cut it with a fork. She is as authentic as her food. The Shepherd’s Pie is awesome. The Bangers and mash, also awesome, (but frankly I just love saying it, makes me feel so continental somehow.) The Fish & Chips forget about it, the best in town. “Redcoats” also serves a mean Grilled Wild Salmon & Pesto, and a wonderfully textured Wild Icelandic Cod.  Mary has several exquisite Salads to choose from, including Chinese Chicken, Chopped Club, Chicken Caesar, and a Spinach salad with strawberries and walnuts that is a mouthwatering wonder. Tossed with your choice of dressing, from vegan, balsamic vinaigrette, honey Dijon, etc. And don’t forget the Appetizers, Calamari, Hummus, veggies & Pita, Chicken Kebabs, etc. The menu at “Redcoats” British Pub & Restaurant has something for everyone!
