'Threat' Made To Pleasanton School Deemed ‘Not Credible’

School officials said police investigated the 'threat,' which was directed toward an employee and Hart Middle School.

PLEASANTON, CA — A "threat" directed toward an employee and Hart Middle School Tuesday has been deemed "not credible," school officials said in a letter. After investigating the incident, police said they determined that the threat was meant to be funny, according to school officials.

Principal Leslie Heller sent an email to Hart families to alert them of the incident:

Dear Hart community,
We wanted to stress the importance of speaking with students about joking or making comments regarding threats to others.

Last evening, we received a report of a message sent that included a threat made toward an employee and Hart Middle School. Working with the Pleasanton Police Department and the District last evening and this morning, we were able to identify the student responsible for the message and determine the threat was not credible and instead made as a joke in bad taste.

The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff remains our highest priority. Accordingly, your school administrators take every threat seriously. Regardless of intent, comments that include threats to others can carry serious consequences.

With any potential threat, our first priority is to work with the Pleasanton Police Department (PPD) to determine its credibility. If a threat is deemed credible or potentially credible, we work with the PPD on an appropriate response and communication to school staff and families. We would like to thank the PPD for their quick response and collaboration in closing this investigation.
We encourage you to speak with your students about the importance of using words responsibly.

Thank you for your support and partnership,
Ms. Leslie Heller
Principal
