Tracy Man Dies After Rear-Ending Water Truck on I-680

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and no arrests were made.

A 44-year-old driver from Tracy was killed after rear-ending a water truck on Interstate Highway 680 in Pleasanton this morning, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash was reported at 6:22 a.m. on southbound Highway 680, south of Stoneridge Drive.

The water truck’s driver, a 51-year-old man from Ripon, was slowing down due to traffic conditions, according to the CHP. The Tracy man was approaching the water truck at a high rate of speed when he failed to notice traffic slowing down and crashed into the back of the water truck, CHP officers said.

The victim was trapped in his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and no arrests were made.
