WATCH: Amador Valley Junior Films Important Documentary

Jacob Baer created a documentary highlighting Children of Deaf Adults' and their proud bilingual community.

Incoming Amador Junior Jacob Baer created a video called “CODA Pride.” It is a documentary highlighting Children of Deaf Adults’ and their unique, but universal experiences, their relationships, and their proud bilingual community. The documentary is powerful in its deconstruction of deaf stereotypes.

The film was written, directed, and edited by Jacob and includes several other PUSD students. Congratulations to Rachel Baer, Sarah Baer, Dante Brooke, Jackson Anderson-Kovacs, Danielle Moyers, Jarod Moyers, and Jessica Smario who are also included in the film.

Jacob’s film was recently chosen an official selection for the 2014 Varsity Brands All-American High School Film Festival. The documentary will be screened the weekend of October 24-27th at the AMC Empire Theaters in New York City’s Times Square.

This is no small feat, as the film festival committee shared, “We received thousands of submissions from over 45 states and 15 countries and your film made the cut!”

“I love seeing students use their creativity and passion,” said Superintendent Parvin Ahmadi. “Congratulations to all students who were involved. We are fortunate to have such wonderful students who will continue to make this a better world.”
