Woman Robbed In Driveway Was Followed Home From Livermore Target

The Oakland teenagers suspected of the robbery were arrested after investigators identified them through Instagram, police said.

PLEASANTON, CA — Three Oakland teenagers suspected of robbing an elderly Pleasanton woman of her purse while she was in her own driveway were arrested last week, police officials said. The alleged attack occurred in the driveway of a home on Chardonnay Drive in Pleasanton at about 8:15 p.m. on Dec. 7, 2017. Police said the victim had just returned home from shopping at Target in Livermore when two of the three men assaulted her while the third grabbed her purse from her car, according to police.

A neighbor who heard the assault intervened and forced the suspects to flee. Police said the suspects were in a 1990s Toyota Rav 4 or Chevrolet Geo Tracker. Construction workers found victim's purse the next morning near the dead end of Nevada Court.

Investigators interviewed two young women found in the area the night of the robbery who allegedly admitted that the carload of suspects followed the victim home from Target in Livermore to her Pleasanton home.

"During the interviews, the females admitted to being with the three males suspects the night of the robbery, although denied knowing the names of the suspects," police said in a statement. "The females stated they only communicated with the suspects via the social media service Instagram."

Police were able identify the suspects after obtaining a search warrant for several Instagram accounts. On February 16, investigators found and arrested the suspects at a home in Oakland. The suspects, whose names were not released because of their age, were arrested on suspicion of robbery and elder abuse.
