📰 News we're reading

1. Pomona officials determine vendor responsible for printing error of recreation guide with porn images in some copies (sbsun.com) — Pomona officials say pornographic images that appeared in a few printed recreation guides were the result of a third-party printer’s setup error, not city staff actions. After a joint investigation, the city and Pomona Police Department found no crime occurred, and leaders say they’re tightening quality controls and contract oversight to prevent anything similar in future mailings.

2. San Gabriel Valley Housing Trust Reaches 1,000-Unit Milestone (mynewsla.com) — Pomona’s Mission Suites apartment complex is getting new support to stay affordable, as regional housing funds will preserve 119 income-restricted units that might otherwise have lost protections by 2030. The San Gabriel Valley Regional Housing Trust says this project helped push its portfolio past 1,000 affordable units, part of a broader effort to reduce homelessness and displacement across the valley.

3. Kaiser Health Plan ordered to pay hospital $82M over insufficient reimbursement (fiercehealthcare.com) — Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center has secured a final $82.3 million judgment against Kaiser Permanente over years of alleged underpayments for emergency care, potentially strengthening the hospital’s financial footing. After multiple appeals, courts upheld most of a prior jury award, finding Kaiser’s payments for thousands of out-of-network ER claims were below the reasonable value of services provided.

4. Money went missing after West Covina police officer searched their cars, drivers testify in theft case (pasadenastarnews.com) — A West Covina police officer accused of stealing cash during traffic stops will be arraigned July 8 at Pomona Superior Court, after a judge ruled there’s enough evidence for the case to proceed. Testimony from three stops described drivers discovering missing money after searches, while the officer remains free on bond pending further hearings.

5. How ongoing sterility issues set off a massive eye drop recall (devicedaily.com) — Sterility problems at K.C. Pharmaceuticals’ Pomona plant triggered a nationwide recall of more than 3.1 million bottles of over-the-counter eye drops sold under many store brands. Residents who bought lubricating drops since April 2025 are urged to check FDA-listed lot numbers, stop using any recalled products, and seek care if they notice eye redness, discharge, or vision changes.
