• CA Supreme Court Refuses to Review Case of Pomona Officer's Murder (mynewsla.com) — Pomona residents should know that California’s Supreme Court has declined to review the conviction of Isaias De Jesus Valencia for the 2018 killing of Pomona Officer Greggory Casillas and wounding Officer Alex Nguyen. Valencia’s life-without-parole sentence, plus hundreds of additional years, remains intact after an appellate panel upheld key decisions made during the standoff and arrest.
   

• Harvey Mudd Student Entrepreneurs Win 2026 SageTank Pitch Competition (hmc.edu) — Student founders from the nearby Claremont Colleges, including Pomona-based Pomona Ventures, just wrapped up the 2026 SageTank pitch competition, where Harvey Mudd’s Whistle startup took first place and $5,000. Their NCAA compliance software grew out of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps soccer connections and support from 5C entrepreneurship courses and accelerators, and they’ll spend the summer scaling the company.
