Today's riddle: What did the bartender say to the jumper cables when they walked in? 🤔 (Answer below!)
• Grieving widow of California man killed by school bus sues district (nypost.com) — A wrongful-death lawsuit against Poway Unified alleges unsafe bus routing and a history of traffic incidents after a 69-year-old man was fatally struck while walking dogs in Rancho Peñasquitos. Attorneys say at least 118 bus-related incidents in nearby neighborhoods show a broader safety problem and are pressing the district to change policies before the driver's October court date.
• Knights at St. Gabriel's award $50K in college scholarships (sandiegouniontribune.com) — St. Gabriel Catholic Church's Knights of Columbus in Poway have awarded $50,000 in scholarships to 38 local students, including many 2026 Poway High graduates heading to colleges near and far. Funded by community donations and an annual dinner auction, the long-running program supports students year after year, with awards up to $3,000 and a special focus on first-generation college-goers.
• Rancho Bernardo, Poway Girl Scouts earn the Gold Award (sandiegouniontribune.com) — A Poway Girl Scout, recent Poway High graduate Charlotte Doll, has earned the prestigious Gold Award for a project helping families better protect pets during emergencies, inspired by the January 2025 Palisades fire. She joins several Rancho Bernardo awardees whose projects range from service-dog education to mental health clubs and support for women experiencing homelessness, highlighting how local teens are tackling real community needs across North County.
