• Crime Log for Poway, Rancho Bernardo and 4S Ranch: Sept. 21-27, 2026 (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Recent crime reports in Poway list vehicle theft, drug-related offenses, disorderly conduct, and simple battery on several neighborhood streets between Sept. 21 and 27. The log also tracks vandalism, DUI, fraud, and shoplifting in nearby Rancho Bernardo, 4S Ranch, and surrounding communities, giving Poway residents a clear snapshot of safety issues close to home.
   

• Police hunt sexually violent predator who vanished after GPS 'tamper mode' alert (nypost.com) — San Diego County authorities are searching for a convicted sexually violent predator who removed his GPS monitor and disappeared from a Rancho Bernardo worksite, renewing concerns about state supervision. Poway previously fought a proposal to house him near a local school and park, with Mayor Steve Vaus and residents arguing that transient placement makes it harder for families to track his whereabouts.
   

• Palomar College welcomes first bachelor's degree students (thecoastnews.com) — Palomar College's Rancho Bernardo campus has launched its first bachelor's degree program in Building Performance & Environmental Design, offering an affordable path in architecture, interior design, and construction management. One of the inaugural juniors is from Poway, highlighting a nearby option for locals who want professional, hands-on training without the cost of a traditional four-year university.
