Burrito Blotter Makes its Way to Poway's El Patron
El Patron Mexican Grill's veggie burrito is good enough.

This week's Hold the Meat review was inspired by my . That means I'm going to take a tip from his burrito-writing style and keep the format the same.
But let me preface it all by saying I chose , located in Poway's biz park, for this week's veggie outing for an obvious reason—I liked the name.
All right, so here's the lowdown on Patron's veggie burrito:

Tortilla
The tortilla was warm, soft and perfectly fried on the pan. I tend to like my tortillas a little bit brown and I wasn't disappointed. But I admit, as I was grubbing all I could think about was this health story we ran earlier by !
Cheese
Cheddar. I doubt it was Boar's Head or anything amazing like that, but the Costco-style was satisfying given the ingredients it was meshed with.

Guacamole
The guacamole was very Costco-y too. But unlike the cheddar, I'm not letting this slide. For a Mexican restaurant, I wanted fresh, made with more chiles and more effort.
Sour Cream Definitely not a sour cream girl and had I known it accompanied the burrito, I would've said hold it like the carne asada. But you know what? It didn't bother me too much, and I still ate a good amount of the burrito despite the sour creaminess.
Salsa
I love salsa. I love it hot, hot, hot! And Patron has a wonderful salsa bar that catered to my above-hot needs—four different types, some mild but still tasty and one just hot! Yum!
Beans
They were refried and, as all refried beans go, they were good. Just, ya know, good.
Rice
I'm a pro when it comes to rice (growing up in a home where we ate rice every day) and this rice was good. But again, it didn't leave me amazed.
Overall
As a burrito, which I rarely order (see: ), I wasn't disappointed or completely impressed. The burrito is certainly filling and would please any vegetarian looking for a quick bite in the biz park. Is it the best of veggie burritos? Probably not. Is it similar to 99 percent of the veggie burritos served up? Yup!
Vegetarian-friendliness on a scale of 1-10: 10. Lots of different options to choose from, as with most Mexican restaurants, and as soon as I told the nice employee I was a vegetarian, she made sure all things meaty stayed away from my plate by informing the cook to do so.
